What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin layers of porcelain that are custom made, in shape and color, and molded to fit over your teeth to create a more beautiful smile.
Veneers are a common form of restorative dentistry and can reshape your teeth and smile to something more of your liking.
Reasons to Consider Veneers
Other than the cosmetic element that veneers provide, veneers can be extremely helpful in another way as well. Veneers help treat the following dental concerns:
- Abnormal or misshapen teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Stained or discolored teeth
- Uneven spacing
- Worn or chipped teeth
What is the Procedure?
During your consultation, your dentist will determine if you are an ideal candidate for veneers. Once approved, you can begin the process of getting veneers.
First, your teeth are examined to make sure they are in excellent health and won’t negatively impact your treatment.
Your teeth are then buffed to help your veneer apply evenly and to avoid making your teeth look bulky after application. A mold or impression is taken, and the color selected by you and your dentist before sending it to the laboratory to be made.
While your permanent veneers are being made, a temporary veneer will be installed until then. The wait will not be any longer than two weeks.
In this final stage, your temporary veneers are removed, and your permanent veneers are glued on using dental cement. The process of gluing is called bonding. This cement is hardened by using ultraviolet light.
With proper aftercare, your veneers and perfect smile will last more than a decade. Veneers are also often better options than other dental procedures like crowns and implants.
